On August 10th, Sellwood Flower Company, Sellwood’s premier flower shop located in an old Victorian on Sellwood’s Antique Row, celebrated the birthday of shop-bird, Alouette and donated ten percent of all sales–$250–to Friends of Oaks Bottom. Shop owner Kerri Evans, who wanted the proceeds to go to a place that protects birds, thought Friends of Oaks Bottom would be a “perfect match.” The gift will go directly towards supporting Friends of Oaks Bottom community events.
Friends of Oaks Bottom Steering Committee Member, Andrew Cohen, said, “We are so grateful for this gift and the new connection with Sellwood Flower Co. This kind of community partnership is incredibly gratifying because ultimately FOOB is only as good as the community surrounding us.”
Evans seemed no less gratified and noted that the event was a big success: “We had lots of people from the community popping in to color, decorate tiny bird houses, eat cupcakes, and of course visit with Alouette. We will do this every year and hope we can continue to partner with FOOB!”
